What's new

Every version of ArcRoute in one place, newest first. Under each one, what joined the map, the planning and the ride itself, and what changed from the version before.

1.3.2Your stops survive a U-turn

Turn round and the stops ahead stay. Head back for a jacket left at the café or for the fuel stop behind you, and the stops and vias still ahead on your route wait for you. The recalculation used to drop them and head straight for the destination. Now it turns you at the first sensible place and leads you back through them.

And more. A place’s card on the map has a solid background all the way down, so the map no longer shows through beneath it.

1.3.1Map style and voice, set before the ride

Set the map style and the voice before you ride. Settings has a new Navigation section with Map style and Voice guidance. It is the same setting as on the ride’s card: pick it in one place and the other shows it, and it stays for the next ride. On the ride’s card, Map color is called Map style now too.

And more. The switches have iOS’s own look now and respond better to your finger.

1.3.0Opening hours at places and a night map on the ride

A gas station, café or ice-cream stand shows its opening hours, phone and website. Tap a pin and the place’s card says whether it is open and until when, shows a phone number you can call right away, and the website. With it, how far it is and about how long the ride there takes.

On a ride the map goes dark by itself at dusk. And light again at dawn. Tap the ride’s figures and Settings lets you pin Day or Night, or mute the voice.

A saved place keeps its hours, phone and website. So its card shows them later, with or without signal. When the place turns up in a search again, the saved copy refreshes by itself.

A round trip by the sea or in a valley tries the next shape by itself. It used to say “Couldn’t build a loop” at once. Now it tries the next loop shape, keeping your length and direction, and gives up only when none works out.

Edit ride in a pause goes on from your bike. Not from where you walked to. More than two hundred metres from the bike, ArcRoute asks first where you will ride on from.

And more. A style button on the map while you plan, and the map styles are now Day, Night, Dark and Satellite. Search offers only places in the twenty-seven countries ArcRoute routes in, in your phone’s language. Settings shows whether the servers are up. Plus a few bugs fixed and many smaller improvements, mostly around places on the map and Edit ride.

1.2.0Twenty-seven countries and a satellite map

Twenty-seven countries on the map. France and Italy whole, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Morocco, Britain, Ireland and the Benelux are new. Every country, with what ArcRoute has in it, is listed in “Settings → Map data → Supported regions” and on the Coverage page.

Satellite joins the map styles. And the picker shows each style on the real map.

The twisty stretches on the map are whole roads. Every stretch is now a whole road, the way you ride it, and at least two kilometres long. There are fewer of them, but they are real roads.

A saved ride keeps its start. Even when you open it hundreds of kilometres away. Edit it in the planner, and navigation leads you to the start first.

A whole trip fits in one plan. Up to 150 points between start and destination, up from 48, enough for a tour of several days. And planning opens straight into search.

When a plan can’t be made, ArcRoute says why. A point is off the map, or it doesn’t work without a ferry. One tap allows ferries.

And more. A long calculation shows on screen with a Cancel, the Rides tab is now Saved and History, Reverse direction leads you to the ride’s start too, and a replanned round trip stays a round trip.

1.1A plan in a second, and the Balkans on the map

A plan comes back in about a second. A Wild route from Prague to Innsbruck used to take fifteen seconds and is now done in about one. A 500 km day plans in a few seconds instead of a minute.

The Balkans are on the map. Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, Kosovo and Romania, twisty stretches included. What ArcRoute has where is on the Coverage page.

The ride’s controls sit under your numbers. Tap the panel or swipe it up to pause, edit or end the ride, or only mute the voice. In gloves there is nothing to aim for, and nothing is in the way on the map.

The Twisty slider answers at once. Once the level times are in, switching is instant, and changing your mind brings the previous plan straight back.

Czech all the way. From the turn banner to the names of your saved rides.

And fixes. Turning back on a long trip keeps the rest of your plan, a pin on a forecourt no longer adds hours to the ride time, a pulled-down sheet no longer traps you sideways, and a GPX with an empty first track imports.

1.0ArcRoute is on the App Store

The first version is out. A motorcycle navigation that keeps its mind on the ride and leaves everything else out. For iPhone.

A route with as many bends as you want. Pick a destination and say how twisty you want to ride, on a slider from Direct to Wild. ArcRoute has scored every rideable road by how much it twists, and finds the ones worth riding.

A loop from where you stand. When you’re not heading anywhere and only want to ride, say how far, and ArcRoute builds a round trip that brings you back to the start.

Turns in your helmet, eyes on the road. Voice guidance calls every turn, and when you miss one, the route is recomputed and you ride on.

A GPX ridden exactly as drawn. Load a track and ArcRoute keeps it as it is, even where the map knows no road, and guides you along it turn by turn.

Every ride is recorded. Even with your phone in your pocket. Everything you have ridden shows on your heatmap.

Closures in Czechia. Closed roads are on the map and the route goes around them, when you plan and on every reroute.

The why behind the changes is in the journal. Something off after an update? Write.
