A Scenic alternative

ArcRoute focuses on the ride itself, for iPhone riders from Britain to the Balkans: the riding time under every curviness step, Czech closures routed around, and a heatmap of every road you have ridden. All of it in English or Czech.

See it side by side

ArcRoute fits if you

  • ride with an iPhone in Britain, Ireland, the Benelux, France, Italy, Iberia, Morocco, Central Europe, the Alps or the Balkans
  • want the riding time under every curviness step before you pick one
  • want a loop that lands on the time you have
  • want closed roads in Czechia routed around, not just shown
  • want a heatmap of the roads you ride most
  • want the app and the voice in your helmet in Czech

Scenic fits if you

  • want the route on CarPlay
  • ride outside Europe, or often without signal and need offline maps
  • want routes shared and rated by other riders
  • want speed camera alerts
  • want to plan and record rides for free
  • want to import routes from Google Maps links or KML

How it works

What ArcRoute does differently

Three things ArcRoute is built around. Each has its own page if you want more.

See what the bends cost before you pick

Four steps from Direct to Wild, and the riding time under each one.

  • Pick by the day you have. An hour spare or a whole afternoon, the number says which step fits.
  • Every road scored. Curvature across the whole network, not only the famous passes.
  • The good stretches, marked. Tap Twisty on the map and ride a stretch end to end.
The route on the map and, under it, the curviness slider with a ride time under each step, from 1:13 h at Direct to 3:32 h at Wild

Closed roads routed around, not just shown

When ArcRoute plans a route, and every time it recalculates one on the road, it steers around closed roads in Czechia.

  • No tap needed. The detour is part of the route, not a warning to dismiss.
  • What stops a bike, nothing else. A lane closure or a lorry ban never sends you the long way round.
  • Official Czech data. From the national traffic centre, Czechia for now.

Where you ride most, on one map

Record the season and watch your roads light up, brightest where you ride most.

  • Snapped to the road. Zoom in and every line follows its road, bend for bend.
  • Only rides you rode. Recorded rides count; imported files never do.
  • Ready without signal. Built on your phone from your own rides.

What it costs

With Scenic you plan and record for free and pay for voice navigation, offline maps and curvy routing. Its trial comes with the yearly plan, and Scenic does not publish how long it runs. ArcRoute has no free version, and new riders try everything free first. App Store prices, VAT included.

FAQ

Questions riders ask before switching

The support page has the rest, from sign-in to subscriptions.

All questions and support

Is ArcRoute free?

No. ArcRoute is one subscription with every feature in it, and new riders try it free first. The price table above has both apps side by side.

Can I bring my Scenic routes?

Yes, as GPX files. Scenic exports GPX with Premium; ArcRoute imports the file, snaps it to the roads and guides you along it with voice.

Is ArcRoute in Czech?

Yes. The app, the voice in your helmet and the website come in Czech and English. Scenic’s app comes in ten languages, and Czech is not one of them.

Does ArcRoute work without signal?

Partly. A saved ride runs from the phone, turns and voice included, but planning and rerouting need a connection, and the map shows only what the phone has already loaded. Downloadable offline maps are not there yet; Scenic has them with Premium.

I ride with Android. What now?

Then look at Scenic: its Android version is in open beta, with some features still to come. ArcRoute is built natively for iPhone, and there is no Android version planned right now.

Does ArcRoute work with CarPlay?

No. ArcRoute guides you with the phone on the bars or in your pocket and speaks into your helmet over Bluetooth, in English or Czech. Scenic supports CarPlay in its free version.

Does ArcRoute route around road closures?

In Czechia, yes: ArcRoute reads the official closure data, plans around it and shows the closures on the map. Outside Czechia it does not know about closures. Scenic shows closures and incidents from TomTom on the map, with Premium, and does not route around them.

Does ArcRoute send me back to a stop I missed?

No. Ride another way and once a stop is behind you, the recalculation skips it and leads you on. One you only just missed it still aims for, around the block if need be. Scenic guides you to the first stop you have not reached; with Premium you can set it to offer a skip after a few recalculations, and there is a skip button on the map.

Where does ArcRoute route?

In twenty-seven countries: Britain and Ireland, the Benelux, France and Italy, Spain, Portugal and Andorra, from Germany and Poland down to Albania, and Morocco. The coverage page shows each one with its roads. Scenic routes worldwide.
